How many micrometers of enamel thickness can be controlled on a steel plate to prevent the enamel from peeling off?

Enamel peeling is a common quality defect in steel plate enamel products. The core cause is stress imbalance, insufficient adhesion, and poor thermal stability resulting from uncontrolled enamel layer thickness. Precise thickness control is a key technological point to avoid enamel peeling and improve the durability of enamel products.

The single-layer enamel coating on daily-use steel plates must adhere to a standardized thickness range, with the optimal thickness being 100–150 μm. This ensures a dense and uniform coating, resulting in the best adhesion to the steel substrate. The minimum thickness must not be less than 80 μm; insufficient thickness will lead to incomplete coating coverage, high porosity, and a significant decrease in adhesion, making the plate prone to peeling and localized enamel detachment during use.

Meanwhile, a single ceramic layer must not exceed 200μm. An excessively thick ceramic layer will increase internal stress, and the difference in thermal expansion coefficients between the steel plate and the ceramic enamel makes it extremely prone to cracking and peeling off under alternating hot and cold conditions. For multi-layer enamel processes, the total cumulative thickness must be strictly controlled within 500μm. Exceeding the standard will result in interlayer stress, significantly increasing the risk of enamel peeling and chipping.

In actual production, it is necessary to control the enamel coating and firing process throughout the entire process to ensure that the thickness of the porcelain layer is uniform and consistent. While meeting the requirements for corrosion resistance and wear resistance, it is also necessary to eliminate the defect of porcelain peeling from the root and ensure the molding quality and service life of enamel products.
